Duo for Two Flutes, by Matt Samolis
Contemporary Composition for Two Flutes, PDF $17.99
Duo for Two Flutes was written using twelve tone techniques. The original tone row was divided in half, with each set of six tones being used to generate one of the flute parts. Frequently changing time signatures reflect compositional organization of the pitches, and does not establish meter. The piece has a playful, somewhat mechanical feel.

Sonata in C Major, D.613, by Franz Schubert
Completion by John W. Pratt
Piano Score, PDF $7.99
Schubert's D.613 consists of two unfinished movements in C major. The first, in sonata form, includes an entire exposition of 86 bars and 35 bars of development ending in a dramatic turn toward E major. We complete this beautiful movement here by adding, in Schubert's style, a suitably proportioned return to C major, a regular recapitulation with a modified bridge passage, and a new coda looking toward the heavenly Adagio in E major commonly assumed to be the intended slow movement to follow.
The noted Schubert scholar Brian Newbould wrote the following to Mr. Pratt regarding his completion of D.613: "I find your arguments for completing the piece in the way you do perfectly convincing..... As for the completion itself, I've read and played it through a few times and it runs well. You have fulfilled your aims, in just about as self-effacing a way as you can - which is clearly your hope."

5 Dessert Rounds, by Zenon Slawinski
Contemporary Composition for Two Flutes
Score, PDF $4.99
Excerpts from the preface to the edition by Zenon Slawinski:
In most classic rounds the second voice begins and plays (or sings) the same melody as the first voice. That's the case here too for three of the five Dessert Rounds. Rounds 3 and 4 are different. In Round 3 - The Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie - the second voice plays the same melody but a third higher. In Round 4 - Sweet Potato Flan - the second voice plays the melody a 4th higher. // The Dessert Rounds are relatively simple and should not pose any difficulties for most intermediate players, although there are some tricky meter changes in Round 2 - Chocolate Mint Ice Dream - if you practice this slowly you'll soon be able to get past the meter changes and simply enjoy your dessert. // Round 4 - Sweet Potato Flan - is written in 7/4. // I purposely left off many performance markings so the players can make their own mark on the compositions. Interpret these pieces freely and have fun.

Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue, BWV 564, by J. S. Bach
Transcribed for Piano by John W. Pratt, PDF $14.84
BWV 564 is unusual among Bach's big organ works. It has a middle movement, an Adagio with an elaborate and gorgeous melody which can benefit greatly from the piano's shaded, nuanced dynamics and articulation. The fugue, too, is atypical - light and lighthearted, well suited to the piano, with a fading coda that is if anything harder to treat convincingly on the organ than on the piano. The exuberant Toccata is also highly effective and fun to play on the piano.

Trio in A Minor, Op.114, by Johannes Brahms
Transcribed for Alto Flute (with Cello and Piano) by Carol A. Vater
Alto Flute Part, PDF $5.99
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) composed the Trio in A Minor for Clarinet, Cello and Piano in 1891 and subsequently created an alternate arrangement in which viola was substituted for the clarinet. The expressive qualities, range, and rich, dark tones of the alto flute are well-suited to this beloved piece. In creating this transcription of the clarinet part for alto flute, every effort has been made to maintain the spirit and character of the original composition. We provide here the Brahms Trio in A minor alto flute part; the piano and cello parts are readily available in the public domain as free pdf downloads of the original score and parts. This was the very first piece I (cav) played on alto flute, before I had my own alto and had to borrow one from the music school; of course, I fell in love with the Trio and with the alto.

Variations on a Theme of Robert Schumann, Op.23, by J. Brahms
Transcribed for Piano Solo by John W. Pratt, PDF $19.75
Brahms wrote his beautiful Variationen über ein Thema von Robert Schumann for piano four hands, but essentially all the musical ideas are captured in this transcription for solo piano. The variations range from delicately decorative to spectral to warmly Brahmsian to bravura and even witty. The last, suffused with sadness, solemnity, resignation, and reaffirmation, combines a funeral march with the theme, which is known as Schumann's last idea because it came to him at night shortly before his attempted suicide and final commitment to an asylum.
