Dear friends,

Not long ago, Noteworthy Sheet Music, LLC celebrated it's one-year anniversary. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your interest and support throughout this critical, initial phase of NSM's existence.  It has been a busy and exciting time, during which we developed the NSM website and, with the help of our talented contributing composers and arrangers, built an impressive catalog of some 80 works to date.

Our goal is to enhance the repertoire available to both professional and amateur musicians by offering exceptional works, ranging from the historical to the contemporary, that are musically compelling, well formatted, and truly pleasurable to play.  Visitors to NSM’s website will find categories of music listings for alto flute, solo concert flute, flute & piano, flute duos & trios, flute & mixed ensembles, voice, mixed wind ensembles, solo piano, strings, and methods & performance practice.  A complete catalog of Noteworthy Sheet Music’s publications, all available as convenient pdf downloads, may be viewed at www.NoteworthySheetMusic.com.

We have added a page to our website that announces upcoming performances of works by NSM’s contributing composers and arrangers, and concerts by NSM-associated musicians — please take an opportunity to hear their music played live, if our contributors are performing in your area.  We have also added a page for links to other websites that may be of interest to our visitors.

For flutists, we offer an increasingly large selection of music, ranging from favorite transcriptions, such as those of Bach’s magnificent "Chaconne" by Peter H. Bloom and Haydn’s "Adagio" from Op.20, No.5 by John W. Pratt, to contemporary compositions by select American composers, such as Elizabeth Vercoe’s “To Music” for solo flute and Peter Van Zandt Lane’s “Danzas Mecánicas” for wind quintet.  Among our newer contributors are composer John D. McDonald (“Three Four-Note Flute Duets” and “Three Melodies That Descend”) and arranger Antonio Figeuiredo (“Na Rua Dos Meus Ciúmes” for wind quintet).  We are delighted and grateful to have obtained exclusive access to the "Gassett Collection", a remarkable anthology of 19th century European publications for flute by composers, arrangers, and flute virtuosi, including Fürstenau, Kummer, Tulou, Nicholson, and Berbiguier, as well as undeservedly lesser-known names such as Reissiger, Sedlatzek, and Walckiers.  We recently added to our catalog a re-notated edition of “Polacca Brillante” by Carl Maria von Weber, anonymously arranged for two flutes, which was discovered in the Gassett Collection and is great fun to play.  More of these otherwise unavailable, historically important works (which remain thoroughly enjoyable to modern day flutists) will be made available over the coming months, either as clearly legible, musician-friendly facsimiles or as re-notated modern editions.

For alto flutists, Noteworthy Sheet Music has introduced some 30 fresh transcriptions, all created with the utmost care and respect, from judiciously selected classical works in the public domain.  New and not to be missed are John W. Pratt’s transcriptions of the complete set of Mozart’s “Mannheim” sonatas, as well as his arrangements for alto flute and piano of the Adagio’s from Haydn’s Symphony No. 24 and string quartets Op.17 No.1 & No.2.  Also new and highly recommended are Bloch’s “Premiere Petite Fantaisie Hongroise” transcribed for alto flute and piano, and Peter H. Bloom’s transcription of the clarinet obbligato from Schubert’s glorious “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen”.

As always, we welcome your suggestions and comments.  Please pass along the link to our website to your friends and colleagues—anything you can do to help spread a good word about NSM will be greatly appreciated.  Our catalog is updated often, so I hope you'll visit us online regularly to see what’s new.

With sincere thanks & best regards,

Carol
