Hello everyone!

I hope you’ve had a great summer, brightened with lots of music events. We at Noteworthy Sheet Music have added quite a few publications to our catalog since my last Newsletter, so it’s high time for an update. I’ll mention a few of our recent editions here and tell you about several more in our December communication.

Bloom Ablaze-Fl-Vc-Guit nsmBloom - Ablaze She Came in the Dream - Flute, Cello, and Guitar (or Electric Guitar)

Composed by flutist Peter H. Bloom, Ablaze is highly recommended for adventurous players. It’s an unusual piece consisting of 11 short episodes, which are meant to be interpreted freely and expressively by the performers, and which will intrigue both players and listeners alike. In this new edition from NSM, the composer adapts the original viola part for cello.

Bridge 4-Short-Pieces Fl-or-Afl nsmBridge/Pratt - 4 Short Pieces - Flute or Alto Flute (and Piano)

The 4 Short Pieces were written by Frank Bridge for violin and piano, and first published in 1912. John W. Pratt created transcriptions for both flute and alto flute, and both parts are included in our edition, so performers can choose for themselves which instrument to play for each piece. We think “Meditation” and “Lullaby” sound particularly lovely on the alto flute and “Country Dance” is a splendid romp on the C flute, but all four are effective on either instrument.

Herman Duo3 nsmHerman - Trois Grands Duos Concertantes - Two Flutes

All three of Jules Herman’s Trois Grands Duos Brillants et Mélodiques pour Deux Flûtes Concertantes, Op.86, are now available in re-notated modern editions that can be downloaded as PDFs from the NSM website. These pieces are fine examples of challenging, concert-worthy duets of the late 19th century. They may also serve simply as fun new pieces to bring to play-ins or as interesting material for improving one’s sight-reading skills.

Mendelssohn Op-113 fl-cl-pf nsmMendelssohn/Pratt - Concert Piece No.1, Opus 113 - Two Winds (and Piano)

In our last Newsletter we mentioned our transcription of Mendelssohn's Concert Piece No.2. Shortly thereafter we published Mr. Pratt’s arrangements of Concert Piece No.1, also a Mendelssohn show-piece written for clarinet, basset horn, and piano. We offer three versions of each of the two wind parts: flute or oboe, in addition to the original clarinet, for the primo part; and bassoon, clarinet, or english horn for the secondo part. Players can mix and match these primo and secondo parts at will. The arrangements of both the No.1 and No.2 Concert Pieces have become popular with visitors to the NSM website.

SPA nsmFinally, a reminder that the Snow Pond Composers Workshop Anthology - New Music for Flute 2015 was published by NSM and became available late last year. The anthology, edited by Joshua Tomlinson, includes compositions by all the participating composers of the first annual composers workshop at the Snow Pond Music Festival, which took place in June, 2015. The Anthology includes works by Elliott Schwartz, Edward Jacobs, Richard Nelson, and eight other composers.

Best wishes for a beautiful, happy autumn. Please feel free to contact me with any comments or suggestions.

Warm regards,

Carol
