Hello from Noteworthy Sheet Music!
I hope you've been enjoying the summer so far. We’re delighted to welcome Judith Ross and Zenon Slawinski as the latest contributors of arrangements and original compositions to NSM’s catalog; look for new listings from them in the coming weeks. And soon, visitors will notice that the NSM website is undergoing an upgrade.
It's been quite a while since our last newsletter. Among the additions to our catalog since my previous update are the following (click on the titles to learn more about these pieces at our website):
Arriaga - Quartet No.1 - Flute.
Flutist Peter H. Bloom describes the Quartet in D-minor by Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga as “a work of structural brilliance, rhetorical grace, and elegant intensity”. Mr. Bloom has made a compelling transcription of this exceptional quartet (Violin1 transcribed for Flute), creating a new version of the Arriaga “Quartet in D-minor, for Flute and Strings” which he performs regularly with the Olmsted Ensemble. Sheet music for the transcribed flute part is now available from Noteworthy Sheet Music.
Bloom - Ablaze She Came in the Dream - Flute, Viola, and Guitar.
Also from Peter H. Bloom is his original composition Ablaze She Came in the Dream. “Ablaze” is an intriguing episodic fantasy written for the unusual trio combination of flute, viola, and guitar (or electric guitar). The piece comprises 11 brief episodes, to be interpreted freely and expressively by the performers.
Mozart - Sinfonia Concertante - Flute, Clarinet, and Piano.
The repertoire available for flute, clarinet, and piano trio includes surprisingly few major works, so we’re very pleased that John W. Pratt has recently completed a superb arrangement of the magnificent Mozart “Sinfonia Concertante”, K.364, for flute, clarinet, and piano. Players and audiences alike can now enjoy this highly significant work in an exciting new way.
Brahms - Zwei Gesänge (Two Songs), Op.91 - Clarinet
At the request of a clarinetist friend, we recently created a transcription of the viola part from the beautiful “Zwei Gesänge” (Two Songs), Op.91, composed by Brahms for alto, viola, and piano. These songs are gorgeous, and the clarinet substitution works well.
Bauer - Sonata, Op.22 - Alto Flute
Shortly after our last Newsletter was sent out, we published Peter H. Bloom’s transcription for alto flute (and piano) of Marion Bauer’s Sonata. The composer herself had created a transcription of the piece, originally for viola, for clarinet and piano. Duo “2” (flutist Bloom and pianist Mary Jane Rupert) have programmed this piece on recent concert tours, and won great audience acclaim for the Bauer performances.
Ross - The Croppy Boy - Harp Ensemble
The Croppy Boy, one of the saddest lrish ballads of the 1798 uprising, is the first of several arrangements created by Judith Ross for multi-level harp ensemble to be published by NSM. Ms. Ross is the founder and director of the Massachusetts Harp Ensemble, and former Chair of the Theory Department at Longy School of Music. Many Boston area harpists are probably aware of this arrangement already, in manuscript form. Now the arrangement will be more generally available to the broader harp community, as a new edition typeset by Noteworthy Sheet Music.
All of our publications are available instantly as convenient PDF downloads from the NSM website, www.NoteworthySheetMusic.com. We also offer professionally printed hard copy editions, priced slightly higher than the PDFs to cover printing costs, for an additional shipping and handling fee. Contact us or see the website for details. We regret that we can only offer print editions to our US customers, because shipping charges to areas outside the US are prohibitively high. Some of our print editions are also available via Amazon.com; links to the Amazon listings are provided in the individual articles on our own website.
Thank you very much for your interest and support. We always welcome your comments and suggestions, so feel free to contact us at any time. And please forward this email to any of your musician friends and colleagues, including non-flutists, who may be interested in our catalog offerings.
With warm regards,
Carol
