Richard Nelson - “Play of Light” for flute and harp.

Noteworthy Sheet Music is pleased to welcome Richard Nelson as our newest listed composer—his piece “Play of Light” for flute (doubling piccolo & bass flute) and harp has been added to our catalog.  Dr. Nelson is Professor of Music and head of the Sonic Arts and Composition Concentration at the University of Maine at Augusta.  He is a professional jazz guitarist, as well as a classical and jazz composer.

Gabriel Pierné - “Canzonetta” transcribed for alto flute & piano.

“Canzonetta” is just as delightful when played on alto flute as on clarinet.  This cheerful little song is among Pierné’s most charming lighter works and would make a great encore piece for a concert or recital.

James Hewitt - “Trip to Nahant” arranged as a duet for flute & clarinet.

Noteworthy Sheet Music’s most recent publication is John Pratt’s arrangement of “Trip to Nahant” for flute and clarinet. Written by James Hewitt for keyboard in 1811 and typical of American music of the period, “Trip to Nahant” is charming—light in texture and subject, and well suited for arrangement as a flute and clarinet duet.

F. J. Haydn - “Fantasia” arranged as a duet for flute & alto flute.

John Pratt has created a fun and engaging arrangement of Haydn’s “Fantasia in C major” (written in 1789 for the pianoforte) as a duet for flute & alto flute. The style and playfulness of the piece are beautifully suited to the agility and sparkle of flutes. The transcription captures the feel Haydn intended, with new coloring, while at the same time affording flutists the joy of experiencing the work first-hand.
